When I started out in medicine, I thought the only way I could make a difference for people was to get an MD, train in something practical, and set up a practice. So that's what I did. I became a colon and rectal surgeon, because it felt like the best way for me to help people.

It didn't take long, though, for me to discover that I was very limited in my ability to actually make a difference for people. For people who just needed surgery - remove the problem and move on - it was great.

 

But so many people came to me who had ongoing, annoying problems that threatened their every day enjoyment of life. Constipation, irritable bowel, pelvic pain, bloating, low energy, food intolerances.

I did my best, but I was so limited in what I could do for them, because I was a specialist. And I was a surgeon, so it was expected that I would spend my day either scheduling people for surgery or performing surgery.

After almost 10 years of doing that, I knew I wanted to make a change. I wanted to escape the "fix your symptoms, not your real problem" way of practicing medicine.

I studied functional medicine. And I embraced a holistic approach to health - getting down to the root cause of issues like irritable bowel syndrome, hormonal imbalances, low energy, and irritability.

Now I help busy professionals who are fed up with not being listened to or taken care of get back to enjoying their work and their home lives. I work with them to find the root cause of their symptoms and create an individualized program to treat those root issues.
